Brokencyde is a crunkcore group from Albuquerque, New Mexico, was founded in 2006. The group’s original lineup consisted of Michael “Mikl” Shea and David “Se7en” Gallegos. The name of the group originated from the idea that their music was “broke inside” due to personal problems.

Brokencyde Early Years (2007-2008)

After promoting themselves online, Brokencyde was joined by members Julian “Phat J” McLellan and Anthony “Antz” Trujillo. In July 2007, they released their debut mixtape titled The Broken!. This was followed by another mixtape, Tha $c3ne Mixtape, in 2008.

The group toured with bands such as Breathe Carolina, The Morning Of, Karate High School, and Drop Dead, Gorgeous. In July 2008, Brokencyde appeared on MTV’s Total Request Live, performing the single “FreaXXX” on the segment “Under the Radar”. Later that summer, they signed with Suburban Noize Records and released the BC13 EP on November 11, 2008 in a promotion with Hot Topic.

In 2008, Brokencyde performed on the “Get F$cked Up” tour headlined by Millionaires. They also made two appearances on “Fearless Music TV” in December 2008, performing “Sex Toyz” and “FreaXXX”.

Debut Album and Tours (2009)

On June 16, 2009, Brokencyde released their debut full-length album titled I’m Not a Fan, But the Kids Like It! on BreakSilence Recordings. It debuted at #86 on the Billboard 200 chart in July 2009.

The band was featured on the Warped Tour 2009 but left in August to play featured appearances in Europe. They also played dates on “The Original Gangstour” with Eyes Set to Kill, And Then There Were None, and Drop Dead, Gorgeous. Additionally, they performed on the “Saints and Sinners Tour 2009” with Senses Fail, Hollywood Undead, and Haste the Day.

Membership Changes and Subsequent Albums (2010-2012)

In early 2010, Brokencyde released two free songs on Myspace: “I’m Da Shizzit” and a cover of David Guetta’s “Sexy Bitch”. That summer, they co-headlined the 2 DRUNK 2 FUCK tour with Jeffree Star.

On November 9, 2010, the band’s second studio album Will Never Die was released on BreakSilence Recordings. In winter 2010, Brokencyde co-headlined the KA$H 4 KU$H tour with Millionaires.

Brokencyde’s third studio album Guilty Pleasure was released on November 8, 2011 through BreakSilence Recordings. An updated version titled Guilty Pleasurez was released on March 13, 2012, supported by a European tour of the same name.

In 2012, the band played dates on the “Fight to Unite Tour” alongside acts including Blood on the Dance Floor, Deuce, Polkadot Cadaver, William Control and The Bunny the Bear. On October 29, 2012, Julian “Phat J” McClellan announced his amicable departure from Brokencyde to pursue a solo career.

Crowdfunding Campaign and Fourth Album (2014-2018)

In December 2014, Brokencyde launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign seeking $30,000 to fund the recording and marketing of an album titled All Grown Up. By February 2015 when the funding period ended, they had only raised $1,421 from 33 backers. Despite this, the group still self-released the 23-track album All Grown Up.

In April 2018, Brokencyde announced signing with Cleopatra Records to release their fourth album 0 to Brokencyde on the label’s X-Ray Records imprint. The album was released on June 22, 2018.
