The name Bad Omens might conjure images of foreboding darkness, but the music of this American metalcore band is more than just heavy riffs and guttural screams. Emerging in 2015 from the song-writing ambitions of frontman Noah Sebastian, Bad Omens has carved a unique path, blending the aggression of metalcore with melodic hooks and introspective lyrics, resonating with fans seeking both catharsis and emotional depth.

The seeds of Bad Omens were sown in 2013 when Sebastian, while still playing guitar in another band, began secretly writing lyrics and demoing songs. This creative yearning eventually led him to leave his band and join forces with his friend, bassist Nicholas Ruffilo, in 2014. Together, they laid the foundation for what would become Bad Omens.

Following the addition of guitarist Joakim “Jolly” Karlsson and drummer Nick Folio, the band solidified its lineup in 2015 and quickly began making waves. Their early demos, characterized by Sebastian’s powerful vocals and the band’s cohesive blend of technicality and melody, caught the attention of Sumerian Records, a prominent label known for fostering diverse metal talent. Recognizing their potential, Sumerian signed Bad Omens in the same year.

The following year, in 2016, their self-titled debut album arrived, showcasing the band’s full creative arsenal. Tracks like the anthemic “The Worst in Me” and the emotionally charged “Exit Wounds” established Bad Omens as a force to be reckoned with. The album, fueled by a relentless touring schedule, saw commercial success, charting on several Billboard charts, including the Hard Rock Albums and Independent Albums charts.

Their sophomore effort, “Finding God Before God Finds Me,” released in 2019, further solidified their position within the metal scene. Building upon the melodic sensibilities of their debut, the album delved deeper into personal themes, exploring struggles with mental health and self-discovery. Singles like “Dethrone” and “Nowhere to Run” resonated with a growing audience, demonstrating the band’s ability to connect with listeners on an emotional level.

The global pandemic that began in 2020 brought a temporary halt to Bad Omens’ touring momentum, forcing them to adapt and explore new creative avenues. This introspection led to the birth of their third album, “The Death of Peace of Mind,” released in 2022. This record marked a significant evolution for the band, incorporating a wider range of sonic influences and a darker, more atmospheric soundscape. Themes of anxiety, isolation, and the struggles of navigating an uncertain world resonated deeply with audiences grappling with the pandemic’s complexities.

The “Death of Peace of Mind” era saw Bad Omens tour internationally alongside established acts like Killswitch Engage and Beartooth, further solidifying their reputation as a captivating live act. Their energetic and passionate performances, combined with Sebastian’s dynamic vocal presence, have earned them a dedicated fanbase across the globe.

Today, Bad Omens stands as a vital force in the contemporary metal scene. Their ability to blend aggression with melody, coupled with their exploration of personal and relatable themes, has cemented their place within the genre. As they continue to evolve and push creative boundaries, Bad Omens promises to remain a source of sonic intensity and emotional catharsis for fans seeking solace and raw energy in their music.
